London to Brighton

Media Forms- how does the trailer use media language to establish the films genre?

The trailer uses media language to establish the films genre by using different types of music to connote suspense and tension to the audience throughout the trailer.  Such as the music at the beginning starts slow by using a piano which relates to the 12 year old girl in order to show how confused and innocent she is.  The music then suddenly changes as it becomes faster tempo which creates a more violent image towards the audience this could show that something bad is going to happen, the sound effect which has been used here is contrapuntal sound due to the music changing instantly.  Also at the end of the film there is a gunshot which creates a dramatic ending to the trailer and gives the audience an idea that something bad is going to happen.  This shows that the music used within the trailer relates to the thriller and drama genre.  There is also vast amount of camera framings in the trailer especially close up shots in order to see the different characters expressions throughout the trailer in order to create emotions, tension and suspense towards the audience.  There is also vast amount of effects throughout the trailer such as quick cuts and blurred effects which creates confusion and excitement throughout the trailer which associates well with the drama genre.  In one particular scene there is a lot of drama created due to the camera framing as well as the characters as a wide shot has been used to show the relationship between the females and the male this connotes that the males are the dominant ones, due to being in front, wearing expensive and smart props and leading the two females into a room.

Media Representations- How is gender represented in the film?

Gender is represented in the trailer as it shows the females are the weaker sex firstly as they are younger and have no money so there intentions are to follow the dominant sex due to having a nice house and having power, money and respect.  Gender is also represented in the trailer as the females are degraded in the trailer due to having cheap props on, bruised bodies and faces and by being an prostitute.  This shows that the females will do anything for money in order to survive.  They are also the weakest sex due to running away from the males instead of confronting them due to the males having guns and being constantly rude and aggressive towards the females.  By the females running away connotes to the audience that they are scared, frightened and confused and they want to stop getting abused and sold for sex to old men.
